Ravens will put Lewis in Ring of Honor in Week 3

The SportsXchange

The Baltimore Ravens announced Monday that they will honor recently retired linebacker Ray Lewis with a spot in the team's Ring of Honor during Week 3 of the upcoming season.

Lewis, a two-time defensive player of the year who retired this year after leading the Ravens to a second Super Bowl title, will be inducted Sept. 22, when the Ravens play the Houston Texans and Lewis' longtime teammate in Baltimore, Ed Reed.

Lewis made 12 Pro Bowls in 17 seasons and helped the Ravens win two Super Bowls. He is the franchise leader in tackles (2,643), fumble recoveries (31) and games played (228), among other categories.

Lewis will join five other Ravens in the Ring: running back Jamal Lewis (2012), kicker Matt Stover (2011), offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden (2008), outside linebacker Peter Boulware (2006) and defensive end Michael McCrary (2004). Eight members of the Baltimore Colts, as well as late Ravens owner Art Modell, also are in the Ring of Honor.
