Ravens, OLT McKinnie agree to restructured contract

The Ravens and OLT Bryant McKinnie agreed to a restructured contract on a wild Tuesday between the two sides.

Earlier in the day, McKinnie tweeted, “Decision is made! I’m gone!” and he told other reporters that he had been released. The two sides were working on restructuring his deal.

According to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun, the Ravens wanted to reduce McKinnie’s $3.2 million base salary to roughly $1.6 million. In the restructuring, McKinnie told Wilson that he could still make $3.2 million-plus with incentives.

"This morning got a phone call sayin I'm gone, & just now ended up signing 2 remain a Raven," McKinnie tweeted in the afternoon.

The 11th-year veteran started every game for the Ravens last season after nine years with the Vikings. McKinnie showed up late to camp and was overweight, but he passed the conditioning test and started the team’s third preseason game.

McKinnie owes Pro Player Funding more than $4.5 million for a loan he took out during the lockout. According to Wilson, McKinnie “would violate the court agreement with Pro Player Funding if the Ravens discontinued making payments.”

McKinnie signed a two-year, $7 million deal with Baltimore prior to the 2011 season. He has played in 148 career games with 147 starts.
