Ravens agree with C Birk on three-year deal

The Ravens have agreed with C Matt Birk on a three-year deal, the club announced Friday. Birk is slated to take a physical, the club said, before the deal is finalized.

Birk, who turns 36 in July, has started every game for Baltimore the past three seasons.

"He is a top player, his intelligence is obvious, and he is a leader on and off the field," Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said of Birk, according to the club.

The way we see it

The expected retension of Birk comes after the Ravens have lost five players, including OLG Ben Grubbs, in free agency. Eagles UFA OG Evan Mathis has visited Baltimore; he would be a solid replacement for Grubbs.
