Ravens' Flacco to wear knee brace Sunday
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco will wear a brace on his left knee in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots as a precautionary move, ESPN.com reported Thursday.
Flacco was hit on his knee by the helmet of Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy in the fourth quarter of the Ravens' 18-16 win on Monday night.
Flacco wore a brace at practice on Wednesday and will continue to wear it for Sunday's game. He has started 94 straight games since entering the league in 2008.
"I don't know if it will be a necessity or not, but I'm going to wear it," Flacco said. "There's no reason not to."
Flacco, who was 20 of 38 for 222 yards against the Lions, said he had a scary feeling after being hit on his knee.
"I've never really had a severe knee injury," Flacco said, "so you don't know what is what. So when you feel something, you definitely get a little bit scared."
Coach Jim Harbaugh was concerned watching Flacco's knee buckle after the hit by Levy.
"I winced when I saw it on the board up there," Harbaugh said Wednesday. "I winced when I saw it on tape again. ... It was a pretty tough hit."
An MRI on the left knee revealed an MCL sprain that is considered mild at the worst, ESPN.com first reported Wednesday.
