Rashard Lewis leaving Heat to join Mavericks

Free-agent forward Rashard Lewis has agreed to a one-year deal paying him the veteran's minimum with the Dallas Mavericks, his agent Colin Bryant told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday.

Lewis averaged 4.8 points and shot 34.3 percent from 3-point range for the Miami Heat last season and was on their 2013 NBA championship team. He averaged 10.5 points and 2.7 made 3-pointers over his last seven playoff games last season. The Houston native joins forward Chandler Parsons, center Tyson Chandler, guard Raymond Felton, forward Richard Jefferson and center Greg Smith as newcomers to the Mavericks next season.

"Rashard made a difficult decision to join Dallas after two memorable seasons in Miami," Bryant told Yahoo Sports. "He would like to thank [Heat owners] Micky Arison, [executives] Pat Riley, Andy Elisburg and the entire Heat organization. He will always consider them family and champions.

"After talking to [Mavericks owner] Mark Cuban and coach Rick Carlisle, he felt a comfort level with the Mavericks. He's excited to join another championship organization."
