Rashad Evans Plans Autumn UFC Return

Rashad Evans Explains Being Pulled from UFC 205

If you saw former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans on the UFC on FOX 15 Prelims broadcast on FOX on Saturday night, you might have noticed that his right eye looked a little droopy.

Fear not, however, it is nothing serious, “just an eye infection,” said Evans, who also provided an update on his planned return to the Octagon.

Evans has been sidelined since his November 2013 bout with Chael Sonnen, struggling with injuries. He has been linked to several fights since that time, but a knee injury had been slow to heal, so he finally had surgery on it in February. At that time, Evans said he expected to be sidelined about six to seven months following the surgery. His comments on Saturday served to confirm his original timeline.

“I'm looking to return in September, October, but I'm not gonna try to push it,” he said. “I'm three months out from post-operation. Right now, it's just me doing a lot of stability work and hitting the mitts lightly.”

Evans had been associated with fights with the likes of Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustafsson, and Glover Teixieira, but it will have been nearly two years, at best, when he returns. With several months to go before he can again step in the Octagon, there is no speculating whom Evans might face when he does return.

For now, fans will be able to see Evans as one of the coaches on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, which pits Evans' Blackzilians fight team against their Floridian rivals at American Top Team.
