Raptors let Richardson go

The SportsXchange

The Toronto Raptors waived Quentin Richardson on Friday without the veteran swingman ever playing for the team, Yahoo! Sports reported.

Richardson came to the Raptors in an offseason trade with the New York Knicks that involved Andrea Bargnani. The journeyman was included because his salary was needed to make the deal work.

The 33-year-old Richardson was due to make the veteran league minimum of $1.4 million this season. That amount will count against the Raptors' salary cap. The second and third years of the contract he signed with the Raptors were not guaranteed and will not affect Toronto's salary cap in future seasons, according to Sham Sports.

The Knicks signed Richardson for the playoffs last season, but he played in only five postseason games totaling 14 minutes. Richardson was on the Orlando Magic roster last season but did not play and was waived.
