The New York Rangers added a veteran presence Sunday when free-agent forward Arron Asham agreed with a two-year contract for a reported $2 million with the team. Known for his toughness, the 34-year-old Asham has 940 career penalty minutes and figures to offset the Rangers' anticipated loss to Brandon Prust through free agency. Asham played for the Pittsburgh Penguins the past two seasons and had five goals, 11 assists and 76 penalty minutes last year. Asham has appeared in 756 games in the NHL and has 92 goals and 114 assists. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Asham will be the first player in NHL history to play for all five current Atlantic division teams when he skates with the Rangers this season.
