Rangers' Harrison has second operation on back
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Matt Harrison had a second surgery on his back in eight days on Wednesday and now will miss at least three months.
Harrison had surgery just over a week ago to repair a herniated disk in his back. After feeling discomfort in his leg earlier this week, he had an MRI, which revealed additional herniation of the disk, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Wednesday's surgery was termed a success and Harrison feels great, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said.
"But he felt great the last time. For eight days. Only time will tell," Daniels said.
Daniels said he was hopeful for an August return.
"It's Matt's expectation. But we've got to get him healthy first. Right now, we're using three months as a loose guess."
Harrison struggled this season compiling an 0-2 record with an 8.44 ERA in two starts before he went on the disable list. Last season, the 27-year-old went 18-11 with a 3.29 ERA as an All-Star.
