Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz and 11 other players accepted 50-game suspensions from Major League Baseball on Monday.

Cruz told the Rangers of his decision, according to USA Today. Fox Sports reported that 11 other players accepted bans.

Major League Baseball is expected to announce suspensions for players linked to South Florida anti-aging clinic Biogenesis and performance-enhancing drugs on Monday.

Detroit Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Philadelphia Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo, San Diego Padres infielder Everth Cabrera and reliever Fautino de los Santos, New York Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli and outfielder Fernando Martinez, Seattle Mariners catcher Miguel Montero, Houston Astros reliever Sergio Escalona, New York Mets infielder Jordany Valdespin and outfielder Cesar Puello, and free agent pitcher Jordan Norberto were also suspended.

The suspended players would still be eligible for the postseason.

New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, the most prominent player linked to the Biogenesis scandal, is expected to appeal any suspension he receives. It was reported over the weekend that he faces a possible 214-game ban. If he appeals, he could be in the Yankees lineup Monday night against the Chicago White Sox.

The Rangers were stunned by Cruz's decision, according to the USA Today report.

Cruz, 33, will be a free agent at the end of the season. He is batting .269 with 27 homers and 76 RBI this year.

Cruz also fired ACES sports agency Monday and hired Adam Katz as his agent. ACES represents Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera and other players connected to Biogenesis, including Detroit Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez and Seattle Mariners catcher Jesus Montero.

Cabrera, who was suspended 50 games last season related to PEDs, signed a two-year, $16 million free agent deal with Toronto in the offseason.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun was suspended for 65 games earlier this month.
