Rangers C Soto out 10-12 weeks

Texas Rangers catcher Geovany Soto is out 10 to 12 weeks because of a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Soto left Sunday's spring game after the knee locked up on him. He asked for assistance while he was squatting behind the plate because he could not move his leg.

"The cartilage was stuck in the joint and that locked the knee up." assistant general manager Thad Levine said.

Soto missed part of spring training earlier with a small bone removed from his left foot.

Levine said the knee injury occurred since Soto had returned from the foot operation.

Sunday, second baseman Jurickson Profar tore a muscle in his right shoulder and is out at least 10 weeks.

"We've lost two everyday players and there is no way to sugarcoat that," general manager Jon Daniels said. "It is what it is. We'll look towards our depth and see where we go from here."

J.P. Arencibia and Robinson Chirinos will compete for the starting job with Soto out.
