ARLINGTON, Texas -- A five-run fifth inning pushed the Texas Rangers to a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners with an 11-3 victory over the Mariners at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Sunday. Nelson Cruz capped the inning with a 431-foot grand slam, the fifth of his career, to build on a 4-2 lead. Texas (12-6) used four home runs in the series finale. Cruz was joined by Adrian Beltre, Mitch Moreland and a career-first by Leonys Martin. Texas pushed runs across the plate in four consecutive innings spanning the third and sixth to overcome what was a 1-0 deficit. Hidden in the five-run inning was a career-high nine strikeouts from Rangers starter Justin Grimm (1-0). Grimm, making his sixth-career start and second consecutive against the Mariners (7-13), allowed just one earned run on six hits. Grimm walked just one. Grimm's previous best in strikeouts came against the Astros on June 16, 2012. Cruz fronted the Rangers with four RBIs on two hits and two runs. Martin also notched a pair of hits with a triple to go along with his home run. Kyle Seager led Seattle with three hits and two RBIs to go along with a ninth-inning home run. Endy Chavez opened the game with a liner toward second. The ball bounced off of Ian Kinsler's glove and allowed Chavez to reach on an error. Chavez would score on the next at bat when Seager extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a double down the left field line. The first-inning run ended a streak of 19 consecutive innings for the Mariners without scoring after being shut out the first two games. After Martin tied the game at one after three innings, Moreland pushed the Rangers to a 3-1 lead following a two-out single from Cruz. Moreland sent a 2-1 pitch deep to center for his third homer of the season. Seattle's response came quickly though, plating a run in the fifth. Brendan Ryan opened with a single through the middle and Chavez launched a double off of the center field wall to score Ryan. Martin's hot bat would continue in the bottom half of the inning. Martin sent a lead-off hit down the right field line for a triple. Kinsler singled in the next at bat on a blooper to right, bringing Martin home. Texas loaded the bases for Cruz, who sent a 2-0 pitch sailing over the center field wall. Beltre joined the long ball party in the next Rangers at bat with a two-run home run to left. Jeff Baker completed the offense for the Rangers on a pinch-hit single to left, scoring Kinsler from second.
