Randy Orton defeated Kane on Sunday, April 29, at Extreme Rules. As a fan, I could not be happier about it. Randy Orton has been popped around all over the place in the WWE for the last bit, and his feud with Kane has seemed a bit contrived. It is now officially time to bring Randy Orton full circle. He needs to be competing for the WWE Championship again. The Viper is the preeminent champion of his era in my eyes, and he is in his prime as a wrestler. He should not be forced to play second fiddle to anyone at this point in his career.
A misguided feud that slowed his push
The whole Kane feud was obviously a distraction feud by the WWE Universe and bookers, but it is still no less confusing. If the proper build up had been done, this feud would have been much better. Instead, it felt rushed and forced from day one. Even the WrestleMania matchup seemed almost like an afterthought when it was announced. Kane is a top-shelf wrestler and it has nothing to do with him. It has everything to do with a lack of creative direction for the characters.
Does Randy Orton have to move on to a feud for the Championship?
I would love to see that happen, but it is not absolutely necessary. I understand the WWE trying to push new talent and building up the future. I just want to see Randy Orton in the middle of something meaningful. Is it realistic to think that Randy Orton would be doing anything other than chasing a title of some kind right now? If he were in the middle of a feud that means something, that would be understandable. If he is just going around randomly fighting guys, then it makes no sense to me at all.
What are some feuds that would be interesting for Randy Orton?
I would love to see Orton go on another Viper streak. He is so much better as a heel. For this to happen, he would have to turn on a major baby face or do something truly repulsive. Perhaps he could attack Kofi Kingston and renew that feud from earlier in his career? Kofi needs a feud right now also and this one could make sense for both characters. Randy Orton could also go after Sheamus. This feud was never fully realized the first time around, and they play well off of one another.
No matter who Randy Orton feuds with, it needs to make sense to his character. He has earned that much as a WWE Superstar who has done it all at a very young age. I hope that the WWE does not waste his prime years.
