Rams place C Wells on new injured reserve

The Rams have reached a contract agreement with former Packers free-agent C Scott Wells, PFW correspondent and St. Louis Post-Dispatch beat writer Jim Thomas reported Friday evening.

Wells, an eight-year veteran, has started 100 regular-season games, all with the Packers. He has started 52 consecutive games, including the postseason.

PFW ranked Wells 44th on its list of the top 100 free agents available this offseason.

No contract terms were immediately available.

The way we see it

Wells is a good addition to a Rams offensive line that was beset by injury last season. The team's Week One center, the highly paid Jason Brown, was moved to guard during the season, and the team released him Monday. Journeyman Tony Wragge finished the season as the starting center, but Wells will certainly beat him out next season.

Wells' departure figures to be a blow to the Packers' offensive juggernaut.
