EARTH CITY, Mo. -- When the St. Louis Rams signed Jake Long in the offseason, it meant Rodger Saffold would move from left to right tackle. It also meant Saffold would need every rep he could get in practice. However, Saffold, who has played a total of only 19 of a possible 32 games the last two seasons, lasted only two plays in Thursday night's 27-19 loss to the Cleveland Browns. He fell to the ground while blocking, and landed on his left arm. He returned to the sideline with his left arm in a sling and is expected to miss one or two preseason games. Coach Jeff Fisher noted Friday that Saffold is still undergoing more tests, but showed off his medical knowledge with an explanation. "Specifically, it subluxed, it was dislocated, came out backwards," Fisher said. "So we got it right back in place. He's very sore. In these instances there's going to be some swelling, some pain and you just have to work through that and then restrengthen that. You just want to make sure the integrity of the joint is OK, and based on all indications it is. We're lucky." Fisher also said Saffold "may miss a preseason game or two, but I think we'll have him back here in a couple weeks." Fisher was asked how much the absence will affect his adjustment to playing right tackle. "He's really had a good camp," Fisher said. "He's doing well out there. A lot of it is footwork. A lot of it is understanding the stuff taking place inside the meeting room. It'll be a setback, but I don't think it's going to hurt him. He's a smart guy and he and (right guard) Harvey (Dahl) are working real well together. We'll get him back as soon as we can."
