Rams DT Brockers out with ankle injury

St. Louis Rams rookie defensive tackle Michael Brockers will miss the first month of the season with a high ankle sprain, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Friday.

Brockers, the No. 14 overall pick in the draft out of LSU, was injured in the first quarter of the Rams' exhibition game Thursday. St. Louis beat the Baltimore Ravens 31-17.

His right leg was in a cast nearly up to the knee on Friday. The injury occurred when he was cut block below the knees.

The Rams are thin at defensive tackle. Trevor Laws is on injured reserve and Darnell Scott is coming off knee surgery. Jermelle Cudjo and Matt Conrath are projected to be the top backups but Conrath was injured on Thursday. Coach Jeff Fisher would not disclose the injury.
