The Raiders’ clean slate not only took place in the front office, but there will be new faces at corner. Oakland is still trying to revamp the unit after losing Nnamdi Asomugha in free agency in 2011, and the team cut Stanford Routt in February. The two free-agent newcomers, Ron Bartell and Shawntae Spencer, have the most starting experience, but shouldn’t give fans much confidence. Bartell missed all but one game in 2011 because of a neck injury and Spencer played in only nine games last season in San Francisco after losing his starting spot. The pair does have the size that Dennis Allen will want in his secondary (both are 6-foot-1), but expect second-year players DeMarcus Van Dyke and Chimdi Chekwa to push the veterans. GM Reggie McKenzie also brought in DBs Pat Lee and Brandon Underwood, who played for him in Green Bay. Corner is certainly a weak position for the Raiders, but they do have a couple good safeties in Tyvon Branch and Michael Huff to help mask deficiencies at corner.
