Raiders sign three UFAs

The Oakland Raiders announced Wednesday that they have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agents Jason Hunter, Kaluka Maiava and Pat Sims.

"We're excited to add three veterans through free agency,helping to create depth and competition on defense," Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said. "We'll continue to add free agents as the opportunity surfaces."

Hunter, a 6-foot-4, 275-pound defensive end, is an eight-year NFL veteran, having played the last three seasons with the Denver Broncos, which included missing the entire 2012 season on injured reserve with a triceps injury.

A product of Appalachian State, Hunter's career statistics include 11 sacks, six passes defensed and three forced fumbles in seven seasons. He played in 88 games with 23 starts with Denver, Detroit and Green Bay, which he signed with as a non-drafted free agent in 2006.

Maiava, a 6-foot, 240-pound linebacker, spent the last four seasons with the Cleveland Browns, playing in 50 career games with 22 starts. Maiva started a career-high 13 games last year, registering two sacks, three passes defensed and two forced fumbles. In total, he has 4 1/2 sacks, five passes defensed and five forced fumbles in four seasons with the Browns, who drafted him in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Sims, a 6-foot-2, 325-pound defensive tackle, comes to the Raiders after five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, having played 60 career games with 23 starts.

He played in eight games last season, missing the first half of the year due to a hamstring injury, and totaled 17 tackles (12 solo) and one interception.

Sims has a career total of five sacks and two passes defensed. He was selected by the Bengals in the third round (77th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Auburn.
