Raiders sign return man Cribbs

The SportsXchange

Free agent return specialist Josh Cribbs followed a recent "great visit" with the Oakland Raiders by signing a contract with the team Wednesday.

The Raiders were one of a handful of teams to show interest in Cribbs, who is primarily a kick returner but also had a role as a receiver with the Cleveland Browns.

Cribbs was on the verge of signing a deal with Arizona early in the free-agent period and also had at least lukewarm interest from the New York Jets and Detroit Lions, but the Cardinals and Jets were openly concerned about the health of his knees. The 29-year-old Cribbs was not fully recovered from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee.

The Raiders might be interested in using Cribbs as a receiver. His best year as a wide receiver was in 2011 when he had 41 receptions and four touchdowns.

For his career, Cribbs has eight kickoff returns for touchdowns, which is tied for the NFL record.
