Once upon a time, the Oakland Raiders used to be the franchise of castoffs and second chances.
John Matuszak, Jim Plunkett and Lyle Alzado are just three of the players who resurrected and extended their careers in the Silver and Black after wearing out welcomes elsewhere.
On Tuesday, the Raiders signed a former first-round pick in tackle Alex Barron, who is on the comeback trail after missing the last two seasons. Barron was the St. Louis Rams' first-round pick in 2005 and spent four seasons there. Since that time, he has bounced to Dallas ('10) and to camps with New Orleans ('11), where he suffered a knee injury, and Seattle ('12), where he was let go in final cuts.
Now, Barron is trying to restart his career in Oakland, hoping to make the most of another opportunity.
