Raiders finalize deal with S Young

The SportsXchange

The Oakland Raiders re-signed safety Usama Young on Wednesday.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but Simms' agent, Andy Simms, indicated previously that the deal was for two years.

Young joined the Raiders for the 2013 season after signing a one-year contract. He was expected to be a starter but was relegated to a backup role when the Raiders signed Charles Woodson. In a part-time role, Young finished with 27 tackles (19 solo), one interception and a career-high 2 1/2 sacks before he suffered a season-ending injury.

In 93 games and 25 career starts, Young has 209 tackles (156 solo), eight interceptions, 24 passes defensed, five sacks and two fumble recoveries. Before coming to the Raiders, Young spent two seasons with the Cleveland Browns and had a career-high 66 tackles in 2011 and three interceptions in 2012.

Young began his career with the New Orleans Saints. During three of his four seasons with the Saints, his position coach was Dennis Allen, who is now the Raiders' head coach.
