Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, isn't exactly on friendly terms with Chael Sonnen, and he had a stern warning for the "American Gangster" during a recent interview with Inside MMA.
"I talk trash, but the thing is, I talk trash about people I'm actually going to fight, who are actually in my weight class," Jackson said. "This guy talks trash about ring girls, about people that are not even in his weight class. He talks trash about the President. Now, that's a little bit too much. It's very disrespectful."
Rampage was also critical of Sonnen's fighting abilities, referring to Chael as a one-dimensional wrestler with nothing else to offer.
"He can't punch hard," Jackson explained. "Look [at] what he did to Anderson Silva. He did a great job holding Anderson down, making a boring fight with a decorated champion. I didn't even see the fight, but I heard about it the day after the fight - Anderson didn't even have a mark on him. Not a mark. He's weak."
Jackson was set to face rising light-heavyweight star Glover Teixeira at UFC 153, but he pulled out of the fight due to an injury. Teixeira ended up settling for fellow Brazilian Fabio Maldonado, and he put on another solid performance, improving his UFC record to 2-0.
Ever since Teixeira's victory at UFC 153, Jackson has made it clear that he still wants a piece of the dangerous Brazilian. A fight between a motivated Rampage and Teixeira does have the potential for fireworks, and I'll be shocked if UFC matchmakers don't organize the fight.
Given the beef between Jackson and Sonnen, I wouldn't mind watching the two square up inside the Octagon. However, the chances of a Sonnen vs. Jackson fight happening in the UFC are pretty slim. Jackson still plans to leave the UFC after his next fight, and Sonnen -- who is set to face Jon Jones on April 27 -- won't be available anytime soon.
Still, that doesn't rule out the possibility of a backstage fight between the two.
"If I see Chael Sonnen and he says anything to my face, I don't know if I'm going to smack him or not," Jackson added. "I don't like the guy."
