He managed to fire off a gorgeous 10 point ride and win the heat with 19.33 points. Other memorable moments in Round 2 were Yadin Nicol's 10 point ride in Heat 5 and Julian Wilson's 10 point ride in Heat 7. They were amazing.
Round 3 Results
Round 3 began with a tremendous surf heat between John John Florence (HAW) and Taylor Knox (USA). John John Florence ripped through the heat with aplomb. He grabbed one wave after another. Taylor Knox, on the other hand, seemed to take a different approach. He caught very few waves. John John Florence's best wave was an 8.67 point ride. He won the surf heat with 15.17 points.
Heat 2 featured Julian Wilson (AUS) and Miguel Pupo (BRA). Early in the heat, Miguel Pupo caught a great wave. He utilized it to grab the rail and go up under the lip. It earned him 6.50 points and put him into the lead. Julian Wilson answered back by going deep inside a sweet barrel. His surfing prowess earned him 9.87 points. As such, he temporarily took the lead from Pupo. Then Pupo grabbed another great ride of his own and took back the lead. In the end, Miguel Pupo won the surf heat with 14.40 points. His best wave was a 7.90 point ride.
Heat 3 featured Kolohe Andino (USA) and Taj Burrow (AUS). Taj Burrow managed to fire off a super 9.57 point ride, which put him into the lead. Unfortunately for Burrow, he lost the lead right before the buzzer sounded. With mere seconds left onto the clock, Kolohe Andino weaved and double-pumped his way through a shallow barrel. It earned him 5.60 points and the win. He finished the surf heat with 12.27 points.
