The King of the Groms and the Quiksilver Pro France surfing competition resumed on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at La Graviere in the Hossegor region of France. The surfers were greeted with modest size waves. Here's a quick look at some of the results:
KOTG Final Results
The day's surf action kicked off with the King of the Groms final between Mikey Wright (AUS) and Kanoa Igarashi (USA). Even though it was a low scoring matchup, it was still exciting to watch. During the heat, Mikey Wright caught a decent wave. He utilized it to go into the lip and project himself over the top and into a sweet floater. He won the surf heat with 9.66 points.
Men's Round 2 Results
The Quiksilver Pro France began with an exciting surf heat between Joel Parkinson (AUS) and Wiggolly Dantas (BRA). Joel Parkinson started out strong. I was really impressed with his barrel rides. He posted three high scores in a row and broke one of his surfboards. When he got back into the water, the incredible barrage of barrel rides continued. He fired off a stunning 9.67 point ride. In the end, Joel Parkinson won the surf heat with 18.27 points.
Heat 2 featured surfers Dusty Payne (HAW) and John John Florence (HAW). During the heat, John John Florence rode into a deep barrel. When he exited the barrel, he launched into a beautiful full-rotation, no hands aerial. It earned him 9.17 points. It was the best wave of the heat. He won the matchup with 15 points.
Heat 3 featured surfers Taylor Knox (USA) and Adriano de Souza (BRA). Both men opened up the heat by posting low scoring rides. Taylor Knox eventually managed to fire off two great tube rides. Adriano de Souza, however, wasn't as fortunate. In the waning moments of the heat, he broke his surfboard and seemed to get stuck in the rip tide. It took him awhile to get back onto the shore and grab another surfboard. Once he did manage to get back into the water though, he caught a long, deep barrel. It earned him 9.77 points and left me cheering. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough to garner him the win. Taylor Knox won the surf heat with 16.80 points.
