Fantasy Pickups of the Week:

QB Towles emerges at Kentucky spring game

AP - Sports

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Patrick Towles threw for 110 yards and Jojo Kemp rushed for 90 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Kentucky Blue team to a 38-14 win over the White squad Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.

Towles started for the Blue team, was 9 of 10 and emerged as a potential front-runner for the top job next fall.

Reese Phillips and Drew Barker split time with Towles. Phillis completed 11 passes for 74 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Barker was 3 for 12 for 50 yards and one touchdown.

As for naming a starter, Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops was non-committal. Stoops said he would evaluate the three quarterbacks during the next two weeks, but its unlikely Stoops and his staff will name a starter prior to fall workouts, giving all three players a fresh start when camp resumes in August.

''There's no decision yet,'' Stoops said. ''I'm proud of the effort Pat has done and really liked the other two as well. The other two are great quarterbacks and certainly had some great days this spring.''

The quarterback race dwindled after Jalen Whitlow, who started eight games last season, announced he was transferring two weeks into spring practice.

Maxwell Smith, who started four games last season, sat out spring workouts while recovering from shoulder surgery.

Demarco Robinson showed promise at wide receiver, hauling in eight passes for 115 yards and one touchdown for the white team, which finished with 437 total yards. The offense was balanced, with the Blue squad collecting 212 yards through the air and 203 on the ground.

Although no decision has been made on who will be the team's starting quarterback, Stoops liked the way his team concluded the spring workouts compared to his first session as Kentucky coach a year ago.

''It was a good spring game and I'm really happy with the way things went,'' the second-year coach said. ''I thought both sides did some good things at times. We kept it pretty vanilla. We're more efficient at throwing and catching the ball. We're by no means a finished product, but I feel like we've improved, certainly from the fall. We're getting better. I'm happy with the energy and we've been solid all spring.''
