QB Barnett leaving Iowa State

Quarterback Jared Barnett, who started nine games for Iowa State the past two seasons, is one of two players who have decided to leave the Cyclones' football program.

Head coach Paul Rhoads announced Friday that Barnett and linebacker C.J. Morgan have decided to transfer to other schools.

Barnett started six games in 2011 and three in 2012, but he lost his starting job to senior Steele Jantz twice in 2012, and freshman Sam Richardson took over as the starter for the final two games of the season.

Barnett's most memorable game came against Oklahoma State in 2011, when he threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns in an Iowa State victory that prevented the then-No. 2 Cowboys from playing in the BCS national championship game.

Morgan started six games for Iowa State, including two of the last three regular-season games this past season.
