Purdue 73, William & Mary 66

Sophomore guard Marcus Thornton had his fifth 20-point game of the season, but William & Mary lost 73-66 to host Purdue on Saturday afternoon at Mackey Arena.

Thornton scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting, leading three players in double figures for the Tribe (7-4). Junior forward Tim Rusthoven also had a strong outing, finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Terone Johnson had a team-high 16 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Boilermakers (6-6).

William & Mary trailed 30-23 after sophomore guard Anthony Johnson converted a 3-point play with 5:10 remaining in the opening period, but the Tribe closed the half with a 17-7 run. Junior guard Brandon Britt made a 3-pointer with 20 seconds to go, giving the Tribe a 40-39 lead at the break.

Purdue regained the lead early in the second half and used a 7-0 run to take a 52-45 lead with 13:53 to play. William & Mary rallied to tie the game on a couple of occasions but couldn't get a go-ahead basket.
