A Pro Mountain Biker Rode a Walmart Bike And You'll Absolutely Believe What Happens Next

From Popular Mechanics

It's a source of consternation for bike shops around the country. Customers come in and wonder why all the bikes cost upwards of $700 when the Walmart down the street sells cycles that look basically the same for $150. Well, this video from professional mountain bike racer Phil Kmetz shows why.

Kmetz competes in urban downhill races down the steep stairs of South American cities, so he knows how to handle a mountain bike. The Huffy Carnage he rides in the video is another story. It's a 55-pound steel monstrosity with cheap rim brakes and a terrifyingly flimsy fork. In other words, perfect for a double black diamond downhill trail.

The inevitable happens and Kmetz crashes on a jump landing, bending the handlebars and busting the fork. The truly heart-pounding moment comes when both brakes stop working and Kmetz has no choice but to ride it out.

This is fun to watch, but if you want to get into mountain biking, get yourself a proper ride.
