The NFL says it's satisfied that reticent Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch cooperated with his Media Day obligations enough to avoid a fine for noncooperation.
Lynch spoke for roughly six minutes, then walked away, then did a softball interview with Deion Sanders with the league-owned NFL Network, then returned and wouldn't conduct further interviews.
Lynch will face a $50,000 fine that was stayed during the regular season and another $50,000 fine if he doesn't cooperate. Apparently, he did just enough to avoid the fine.
The Pro Football Writers of American isn't satisfied with what Lynch has done so far, issuing a statemen.
"The Pro Football Writers of America, the official voice of pro football writers fighting and promoting for access to NFL personnel to best serve the public, is extremely disappointed in the lack of meaningful access to Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch at the Super Bowl XLVIII media day on Tuesday," the statement read. "Several of our long-standing and high profile members were appalled by Mr. Lynch’s conduct and refusal to answer any questions. We find the statement that by the league that ‘Players are required to participate and he participated’ to be an affront to our membership. However, we are encouraged that the league will continue to closely monitor this situation.”
What's Lynch's deal?
“I’m just about action,” he said. “You say ‘hut’ and there’s action. All the unnecessary talk, it don’t do nothing for me. I appreciate that people want to hear from me, but I just go to work and do my thing. You feel me?
“My fans love me regardless. They love the Seahawks. They aren’t worried about what I’ve got to say. They just want to make sure I show up to perform.”
