A postgame spat between Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price and umpire Tom Hallion overshadowed Price's work in the Rays' 8-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Price claims Hallion used a profanity while addressing him while the two were arguing when Price was walking toward the dugout after the seventh inning. Hallion then ejected Jeremy Hellickson for his comments from the Rays' dugout. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Price said Hallion told him to "throw the ball over the f----- plate" and added that for Hallion to speak to him that way was "terrible." However, Hallion told a pool reporter that he did not curse Price. "I'll come right out bluntly and say he's a liar," Hallion said, according to the Times. Hellickson replied on his Twtter account by saying, "There's only one person lying about all this and his name starts with a T and rhymes with pom."
