Price again proves to be Rays' stopper

LHP David Price came to the Tampa Bay Rays' rescue again.

After a tough Wednesday night loss, Price stepped up with seven solid shutout innings to lead the Rays to a 6-0 matinee victory and a four-game series split with the Indians.

"David was outstanding," manager Joe Maddon said. "He had once again great command of his fastball, started mixing in some other things, but fastball command was incredible, the velocity, a lot of 97s, 98s, where he wanted to throw it.

"That's what really makes it even better, the fact that it's not only high velocity but well located on top of that."

The Rays have come to depend on Price, who shares the major-league wins lead with the Mets R.A. Dickey at 13.

They are 13-6 (.684) in games he starts and 35-39 (.473) with anyone else on the mound.

Maddon said Price actually is pitching better than he was during his 2010 season when he went 19-6, 2.72 and finished second in the AL Cy Young voting.
