Press Box: Sweden wins World Hockey title

Team Sweden won the World Hockey Championships as the host nation by beating Switzerland 5-1 on Sunday.

Vancouver Canucks' captain Henrik Sedin, who joined the Swedish squad when their NHL team was eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs in the opening round, scored twice in the gold medal game.

Earlier in the day, Team USA won the bronze medal in a shootout over Finland.

TENNIS

--- Serena Williams won her fourth consecutive title, beating Victoria Azarenka 6-1, 6-3 in the Italian Open women's final, while Rafael Nadal beat rival Roger Federer by the same 6-1, 6-3 score in the men's final in Rome.

Williams will enter the French Open, which starts next Sunday, on a career-best 24-match winning streak.

AUTO RACING

---Josef Newgarden and Graham Rahal posted the two fastest times on the second and final day of qualifying to earn spots in the starting rid of the Indianapolis 500.

Newgarden will start 25th, the inside of the ninth row, after posting a four-lap average of 225.731 mph. Rahal will be next to him after going 225.007.

NHL

---Los Angeles Kings goal Jonathan Quick will not face any supplemental discipline for his game misconduct for abuse of officials Saturday night, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The NHL could have pursued further action against Quick, but opted not to do so.
