PRESS BOX: Sore ankle sidelines Rockets' Howard

The SportsXchange

Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard said Saturday that he will be out for the next 10 days because of a sore left ankle.

The team officially listed Howard as day to day. Howard missed three games with the injury last week and recently had a cyst removed from the ankle. After returning earlier this week, he felt pain during the second half of Thursday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Howard participated in Saturday's shootaround while wearing slippers but said afterward he would not play Saturday night against the Los Angeles Clippers. He later told Clippers broadcaster Ralph Lawler that he would miss 10 days.

Texas A&M indefinitely suspended sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill after he was arrested for public intoxication on Friday morning.

Hill is barred from all athletic activities, according to Texas A&M policy, the Bryan-College Station Eagle reported. The 19-year-old is competing for the starting job with the departure of Johnny Manziel. However, the suspension hurts his chances as he will miss out on practice time for at least part of this spring. Matt Joeckel and Kyle Allen are also being considered.

Police found Hill passed out in a planter full of rocks and plants in front of a Southlake, Texas, restaurant and bar. Asked by officers to name the president of the United States, Hill responded "Bush" and then told them his name was "Kennedy." He was released after posting bail.

Guard Kevin Ware is transferring out of Louisville, according to

Ware, a junior, got national attention last year during an NCAA regional final against Duke when he severely broke his right leg. He reportedly plans to transfer to a school -- possibly Auburn or Georgia State -- that is closer to his family in Georgia.

Ware returned from the injury Nov. 6 during an exhibition game against Pikeville College. He made his first shot, a 3-pointer. He then scored five points in 13 minutes against Cornell on Nov. 15 in his first regular-season game. Ware averaged just 1.7 points in nine games before he injured the same leg against Missouri State on Dec. 17 and missed the rest of the season.
