PRESS BOX: NASCAR shifts to NBC

NASCAR announced on Tuesday that ESPN and Turner Sports will not air races after next season and that it has reached a broadcast-rights agreement with NBC Universal that begins in 2015 and runs through 2024l,.

NASCAR had more than three decades of relationships with Turner and ESPN.

The new rights deal with NBC will include the season-ending 10-race Chase for hte Championship in Sprint Cup. Four Nationwide races will be telecast on NBC and 15 on NBC Sports Network -- a package that previously had been held by ESPN. Beginning in 2015, NBC will share NASCAR coverage with Fox, which signed an extension with NASCAR last year.

Financial terms of NBC's deal were not available, but sources said it was as much as a 50 percent increase from what ESPN paid for the Sprint Cup series and half of the Nationwide Series.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

South Carolina's compliance department is checking into the possibility of contact being made between defensive end Jadevon Clowney, considered one of the top prospects for the 2014 NFL Draft, and rapper/agent Jay-Z.

Steve Fink, assistant director of athletics for media relations, told NFL Draft 365 in an email that the university was checking into the report as and investigating any potential violations.

Jaz-Z started Roc Nation Sports earlier this year to represent athletes and has picked up some high-profile clients.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

The Crossroads Classic will continue through the 2016 season, the involved schools have announced.

The Classic is a four-team college basketball event involving Indiana's largest schools. The games are played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, home of the NBA's Indiana Pacers.

The event was already set for 2013 and 2014. The additional dates and matchups are Dec. 19, 2015 (Purdue vs. Butler and Notre Dame vs. Indiana) and Dec. 17, 2016 (Purdue vs. Notre Dame and Butler vs. Indiana). Purdue will serve as the host school in 2015, with Indiana doing so in 2016.

GOLF

Fans eager to man the flag at a major golf championship, warm up your voting hand.

The PGA Championship is inviting fans to decide where the pin should be placed on the par-3 15th hole for the final round of the Aug. 8-11 event at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.

The tournament specs for the downhill 15th hole: 181 yards, par-3 with a tight green with water in play on the right of the green and bunkers guarding the left side. The hole location can make putting a real challenge.

NHL

The Winnipeg Jets have signed tough guy Anthony Peluso to a two-year, $1.125 million deal.

The Jets claimed the 24-year-old forward off waivers on Jan. 6, 2012. Before suffering a season ending injury, he made his NHL debut by playing five games with the Jets. He had two assists and 14 penalty minutes.

Peluso played in 181 career American Hockey League games with Peoria with 15 goals, 14 assists and 376 career penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the sixth round, 160th overall, in the 2007 NHL Draft.

---Forward Trevor Lewis agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

Lewis, named to the US Olympic camp roster Monday, has 12 goals and 25 assists in 205 games covering his five seasons with the Kings.
