Andrew Wiggins, the No. 1 player in the class of 2013, will play for the Kansas Jayhawks.

Wiggins quietly announced his intentions on Tuesday at an intimate signing ceremony at Huntington Prep (W.Va.), in front of family and friends.

"Obviously, everyone in Jayhawk-land is overwhelmed and excited today," KU coach Bill Self said of Wiggins, who is considered by some to be the most talented player coming out of high school since LeBron James.

Only one newspaper reporter, Grant Traylor of the local Herald-Dispatch, covered the event live and relayed the news to the masses. Wiggins reportedly only informed his parents of his decision Tuesday morning.

Florida State, Kentucky and North Carolina had also been in the running for the 6-foot-8 Wiggins, a Toronto native who is the son of former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins and Olympic track star Marita Payne.

---Junior college transfer James Kelly has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Miami Hurricanes.

Kelly averaged 18.3 points and 10.1 rebounds for Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio, last season and led his team to the NJCAA Division II tournament semifinals.

Miami also signed Manu LeComte, a 5-foot-9 point guard from Belgium.

Former Houston Rockets executive Sam Hinkie was named Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations and general manager on Tuesday afternoon, the team confirmed in an announcement.

Reports circulated for several days that Hinkie, who served as vice president of basketball operations for the Houston Rockets since 2010 and worked in the organization for eight years, had emerged as the Sixers' choice.

Hinkie replace general manager Tony DiLeo, who had been with the Sixers for 23 years.

The Washington Wizards' Bradley Beal and the New Orleans Hornets' Anthony Davis totaled 57 points each, while Dion Waiters of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Harrison Barnes of the Golden State Warriors round out the first team.
