PRESS BOX: Florida State No. 1 in football polls

Florida State finished the regular season at No. 1 in both major polls, which were released Sunday.

The Seminoles (13-0) received all 62 first-place votes in the USA Today coaches poll and 56 of 60 votes in the Associated Press media poll.

Auburn moved up to No. 2 in both polls after winning Saturday's SEC championship over Missouri. Auburn (12-1) picked up the remaining four first-place votes in the AP poll.

Alabama (11-1) and Michigan State (12-1) made up the top four in both polls. The Crimson Tide were idle and the Spartans moved up after beating Ohio State to claim the Big Ten crown.

Baylor (11-1) was fifth in the coaches poll while Stanford (11-2) was No. 5 in the AP poll.

---North Dakota State football coach Craig Bohl announced on his Sunday television show that he has accepted the head coaching position with the University of Wyoming.

Bohl will replace Dave Christensen, who was fired a week ago. Bohl will continue to coach North Dakota State throughout the FCS playoffs.

NHL

---Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski will miss about a week with an upper-body injury, coach Todd Richards said.

David Savard will take his spot in the lineup, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Wisniewski leads all Blue Jackets defensemen with 18 points (two goals and 16 assists).

---The Chicago Blackhawks announced Sunday that they recalled defenseman Michael Kostka from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL and activated him from injured reserve.

MISCELLANEOUS

---A gold medal won by Jesse Owens in the 1936 Berlin Olympics sold at an auction for more than $1.4 million on Sunday morning, ESPN reported.

The medal's selling price of $1,466,574 represents the highest ever paid for a piece of Olympic memorabilia, breaking the previous mark of $865,000 paid in April for a silver cup won in the first modern-day Olympic marathon in 1896.
