COMMENTARY | The 2012-13 New Orleans Hornets are on pace to have their worst season in franchise history. If ever the Hornets could use a bunch of Christmas presents, this is the year. Here's a list of presents for the New Orleans Hornets on the 12 days of Christmas.
12 games played by Eric Gordon
After playing in only nine games last season and no games so far in 2012-13, 12 games played for Eric Gordon would be amazing for the Hornets. By the way, Gordon was born on Christmas day.
11 straight wins
New Orleans is currently mired in an 11-game losing streak. The Hornets could use an 11-game winning streak for Christmas to erase the memory of their recent struggles.
10 flowers for Hugo
The Hornets' name change is about as certain as a hot summer in New Orleans. So Hugo, the team's mascot, is about to be out of a job. Hornets love flowers so this would be a great Christmas present for Hugo.
9 Honeybees dancing
Even when the Hornets are struggling, the Honeybees dance team always keeps the New Orleans home crowd entertained. Even one Honeybee dancing would be a terrific Christmas present.
8 home sellouts
With only five wins on the season, it will take a lot more than Anthony Davis to get eight home sellouts for the Hornets. Santa Claus might have to intervene for this Christmas present.
7 triple-doubles
The Hornets' franchise record for the most triple-doubles in one season is six by Chris Paul in 2007-08. Greivis Vasquez would have to start rebounding like Rajon Rondo for New Orleans to get this present.
6 guards-a-guarding
When (or if) Eric Gordon returns to action for the Hornets, New Orleans will have six guards on its active roster. I would love to see these guards actually start guarding opposing perimeter shooters.
5 championship rings
Hey, it is Christmas, right? What's wrong with asking Santa Claus to give New Orleans five NBA championship rings as a present?
4 playoff wins
In the NBA, you need to win four playoff games to advance. With only one playoff series win since the Hornets moved from Charlotte, New Orleans needs another postseason victory for Christmas.
3 three-pointers per game for Ryan Anderson
Peja Stojakovic holds the Hornets' record for most three-pointers in a season with 231. If Ryan Anderson averages three made three-pointers per game, he will break that record.
2 straight first overall draft picks
New Orleans currently owns the second worst record in the NBA. It would be wonderful if David Stern (I mean, Santa Claus) could work his magic and give New Orleans this outstanding Christmas present.
And a pelican in an oak tree
The pelican is the frontrunner to become the new name for the New Orleans Hornets. A pelican in an oak tree would be a great Christmas present as New Orleans prepares to embrace its new mascot.
