Premier League Preview: Swansea - Manchester City

Second-placed Manchester City travels to Swansea City on New Year's Day looking for a first Premier League victory at the Liberty Stadium.

City has made two trips to South Wales since the Swans were promoted to the top flight in 2011 but has yet to win or score there.

Goals have not been regular for Swansea in this fixture either, with the Welsh club having notched just once in the five previous Premier League clashes between the two clubs - Luke Moore's late strike giving the team a 1-0 home victory in March 2012.

Michael Laudrup's side struggled for form throughout December, posting just one win from seven top-flight games, with the latest outing ending in a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa on Saturday.

Winger Pablo Hernandez expects a tough challenge against City but hopes that January will bring Swansea a change in fortune.

"It's going to be a difficult game," the Spaniard told reporters. "One month ago we played them and we lost [3-0 at the Etihad Stadium] but we played a good game.

"They are a great team, with big players, but at home we can beat anyone in the Premier League."

City is in superb form, with four straight Premier League victories forming part of a run of seven victories and a draw since a 1-0 reverse at Sunderland in November. Manuel Pellegrini's team has also scored 11 goals in its last four matches.

Victory over Crystal Palace and Liverpool in the club's last two matches saw it move top of the table, only for Arsenal to replace it with a win at Newcastle on Sunday.

Laudrup is without goalkeeper Michel Vorm and forward Michu as both recover from surgery to resolve knee and ankle problems, respectively.

Pellegrini, meanwhile, may rest Joe Hart after the keeper suffered an eye injury in the victory over Palace, while Martin Demichelis (hamstring), Sergio Aguero (calf) and Micah Richards (hamstring) are all sidelined.
