Portland Trail Blazers 2013 NBA Draft: What the Experts Are Saying

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | With the NBA Draft Lottery complete and the Portland Trail Blazers locked into the tenth overall pick, here is a breakdown of who the experts have the Blazers selecting:

Hole in the Middle

Portland needs help at center so it makes sense to see 7'1", 255 pound Maryland big man Alex Len appearing on multiple draft boards. Len, like Cody Zeller or even Rudy Gobert, could provide a nice compliment to LaMarcus Aldridge in the front court. However, none of the three look ready to contribute right away and the Blazers already drafted a young big man -- 7'1" Myers Leonard -- in the 2012 draft.

Bench Help

The Blazers had one of the worst benches in the league this season, so any help in that department would be a welcome addition. Looking at the experts' picks, it's hard to see a player that provides an immediate impact.

Kelly Olynyk is a gifted offensive player, but his athleticism and ability to score against NBA defenses has been questioned.

Dario Saric -- a point guard, who converted to forward after a growth spurt -- is an interesting prospect, but his lack of quickness will likely prevent him from playing on the wing in the NBA.

The Verdict

Looking at the experts' picks it's hard to get excited over any of the players mentioned. There have been rumors about Portland moving up -- perhaps to select Indiana's Victor Oladipo --or trading out of the draft completely.

Given Portland's roster and the age of their core players, I would be surprised to see the Blazers keep their current pick. I would expect them to trade out of the draft, likely as part of a package for a proven big man.
