PORTLAND, Ore. -- A late goal from Erick Torres earned Chivas USA a 1-1 draw and kept the Portland Timbers without a win six games into the 2014 season.
Portland opened the scoring early, just as the clock ticked over to the 7-minute mark. An unfortunate deflection off Eric Avila handed possession to Max Urruti. Urruti passed back to Darlington Nagbe, who had enough space and time to pick out Will Johnson's run. The Timbers captain made no mistake and smashed his first of the year past Dan Kennedy to make it 1-0.
Just when it looked like the Timbers might go onto record their first win, Chivas USA grabbed an equalizer in the 79th minute. Leandro Barrera's cross found Erick Torres completely unmarked in front of goal -- the Timbers defenders disastrously asleep on the job -- and Chivas USA's leading scorer added another to his tally.
Chivas USA is now 1-2-3 on the year, while Portland is stalled on 0-2-4.
