With Podlesh hurt, Bears trying out veteran punter

Bears punter Adam Podlesh is out for the rest of the preseason with a hip flexor injury but expects to play Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Podlesh said trainers have told him he should be able to play Sept. 9.

The Bears have only one other punter on the roster -- undrafted rookie Ryan Quigley from Boston College.

The Bears are reportedly planning to work out veteran free agent Matt Dodge, a seventh-round pick by the New York Giants in 2010.

Podlesh was seventh in the NFL in net punting average with 40.4 yards per punt. He tied for 20th with 21 punts downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line.
