Playfully, Jeff Green Tries to Keep Miami Heat Rivalry Alive

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat have had some pretty great battles over the past few years, although the Heat have been coming out on top.

You're always in for an entertaining game when the two teams meet, as it's clear that there is some bad blood. We all know Rajon Rondo doesn't like the Heat , and the chances are pretty good that the feeling is mutual. Sports are no fun when everyone is playing nice, right?

Without Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Doc Rivers, these games will have a much different vibe. The Heat will probably run right over the Celtics this year. Miami is chasing a third consecutive championship, and the Celtics might be playing for more lottery balls. When Rondo is watching from the bench while still recovering from injury, these games could get very ugly.

Regardless, Jeff Green is trying to keep the flame burning just a little bit. You can read about the full story here, where Green got a young Heat fan to get rid of all his Miami Heat gear in exchange for an autograph from the Boston forward.

Sure, this isn't a huge move in the middle of a burning rivalry. It's a fun one, particularly since the fan was so young.

You still have to believe that Green really doesn't like the Heat, even if his Celtics are done competing with them for a little while. Would he have done this if the youngster was wearing a Milwaukee Bucks hat? How about if he was wearing a Phoenix Suns jersey? Probably not.

Hopefully Green can maintain some fire through a rebuilding year. It's important for a young team to stay competitive on a nightly basis, even if it's not winning a ton of games. Becoming content with losing won't help anyone's development, particularly Green's. There are players on the team that will look to him to lead the way, and he needs to be ready, particularly against teams like the Miami Heat.
