Stephan Lichtsteiner has hailed Andrea Pirlo in the wake of Juventus' 3-1 Serie A win over Inter on Sunday evening, and stressed that the playmaker makes life easy for his teammates with his intricate passing.
The Switzerland international opened the scoring early in the first half after being set up by Pirlo and he was grateful to the midfielder for his fine assist.
"I have to thank Andrea, who laid it on a plate for me. With his assists, everything becomes much easier," Lichtsteiner told the official club website.
"I’m happy because it had been a while since I’d scored like that. In the heat of the moment, I didn’t think about whether to control or strike it straight away, I just acted instinctively."
Lichtsteiner stressed Inter was no pushover before adding that Juventus has set its sights on European success this term.
"Inter are in a bit of difficulty, but they’re always tough opposition," he continued. "We played at a high tempo, only dropping towards the end, but with a 3-0 lead that was understandable.
"We want to go on to big things in Europe, too. Everyone views us as favorites, but we know it won’t be easy. We’ll do our best, we’ve got no intentions of letting up in any competition."
Juventus takes on Trabzonspor in the Europa League round of 32.
