The Pittsburgh Pirates gave general manager Neal Huntington and manager Clint Hurdle three-year contract extensions on Saturday.

Both deals include options for the 2018 season.

"Neal and Clint have led a team of baseball professionals, in the front office and on the field, that has transformed the Pittsburgh Pirates into a club that again must be reckoned with in the National League," president Frank Coonelly said in a statement. "We are extremely pleased that they will continue to lead this team in Pittsburgh."

Huntington put together last year's team that had its first winning season since 1992. The Pirates went 94-68 after finishing with 79 wins in 2012. Huntington, 45, took over as GM after the 2007 season.

Hurdle, 56, managed the Pirates to the top wild card spot in the NL playoffs and reached Game 5 of the NL divisional series. The Pirates' record has improved in each of Hurdles' three seasons as manager.

Hurdle is 782-867 in his career with two playoff appearances. He guided the Colorado Rockies to the NL pennant in 2007 and was awarded as last year's NL Manager of the Year.
