Pickups of the Week

This week, Yahoo! Sports fantasy expert Brandon Funston looks at five intriguing fantasy baseball players still available on the waiver wire in more than half of Yahoo! fantasy leagues.

Michael Saunders

"The Condor" hopes to go clubbin' over final stretch of '12

Michael Saunders (OF) Seattle Mariners
Saunders offers a nice blend of power and speed, he's swinging a hot bat in September (.945 OPS in 15 games) and he has something to play for over the final week-plus of the season. That motivation is the 20/20 club, which he sits three home runs shy of at the moment. Only six players in MLB have reached 20/20 status, thus far. With nine games left, if he matches the three home runs from his past nine games, he'll make it. Either way, Saunders' strong September makes him worth final-week employment.

Adam Eaton

Arizona rookie help for those looking to make a Runs run

Adam Eaton (OF) Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona's young top-of-the-order spark plug his been a bit inconsistent at the plate in his short time in the desert, but he's had no problems when it comes to crossing the dish (15 runs in 16 games) thanks to his ability to draw walks (13 BBs) and fly around the bases. And in the past week, he's flashed some pop to go with the speed, hitting two home runs and two triples in his past five games.

Brandon Moss

Oakland slugger offers exploitable platoon advantage in end-game strategy

Brandon Moss (1B/OF) Oakland A's
Moss has a robust 19 home runs since June 7, the 26th-best tally in MLB over that span. Of that total, 17 have come against right-handed hitters, who he owns a .964 OPS mark against. This week, he's slated to see righties Yu Darvish, Hisashi Iwakuma and Blake Beavan. If a home run or two could make the difference in your title efforts, definitely keep Moss in mind.

Jeff Keppinger

Rays utilityman offers first-aid kit security in season's final week

Jeff Keppinger (1B/2B/3B) Tampa Bay Rays
Keppinger might not be able to win you a league title, but he may prove useful in helping you not lose one. Over the season's final days, Keppinger's three-position flexibility and reliable batting average are nice options to be able to lean on as a lineup hole filler. Keppinger has hit .293 or better in each month from May to present, and he owns a .339 mark since the All-Star break.

Chris Johnson

The Johnson roller-coaster ride on the climb once again

Chris Johnson (3B) Arizona Diamondbacks
Johnson has proven to be a streaky hitter, and that hasn't changed in his short time in Arizona. After going 13-for-38 (.342) in his first 10 games with the Diamondbacks, he slumped to .116 (5-for-43) over his next 16 games. But September provided an upturn, as he's gone 22-for-54 (.407) in his past 15 games. Assuming everything checks out with his wrist after being beaned on Sunday (and early indications are that he'll be fine), Johnson's a hot corner worth considering the rest of the way.
