Phillips rips Reds fans for booing team

Brandon Phillips is the Cincinnati Reds' most fan-friendly player, but he chastised the faithful a bit after Thursday's game.

Phillips was the hero of the 7-6 comeback win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Reds were down before Phillips hit a three-run homer in the sixth and two-run double in the seventh.

"The game ended up beautiful," Phillips said. "I'm glad we won that game because if we didn't you all were going to be in the panic mode. We should be winning games. (But) we got our best hitter not in the lineup."

"I love my fans. I love the fans period. I feel like all the booing was unnecessary. We're in first place. We're playing good baseball. I know we didn't do our jobs early in the game. It's not like we're doing it on purpose.

"I feel like if you're going to boo somebody, wait till the end of the game because you never know when guys come up in key situations. We feed off the fans. That's the only reason we got that win today. In the seventh inning when (Xavier) Paul got on base, the fans were cheering. It started everything up. ... The fans were into the game."

All this was said before Phillips was asked a question. He paused.

"I said what I'm going to say about the fans. . . It feels good to win. ... That win right there was a great win."
