Phillies won't renew Dubee's contract

The SportsXchange

The Philadelphia Phillies will not retain pitching coach Rich Dubee, whose contract is up.

Dubee, 55, was with the Phillies for 13 years, including the last nine as pitching coach. That includes five straight National League East titles from 2007-11 under former manager Charlie Manuel. The Phillies also went to consecutive World Series in 2008 and '09, winning the '08 title.

"Rich was a big part of a wonderful era here and in his nine years he served our organization very well," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement. "We believe it is time for change as we move forward. We thank Rich for his professionalism and contribution to the Phillies."

The Phillies recently named Ryne Sandberg as permanent manager after he replaced Manuel late in the season. They expect to announce the rest of the coaching staff at a later date.

Philadelphia finished the year 73-89.
