PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Phillies officially removed the interim tag from Ryne Sandberg's title Sunday morning, making him the 52nd manager in team history.
The club announced Sandberg has signed a three-year contract with a club option for a fourth year.
Sandberg had been the interim manager since the Phillies fired Charlie Manuel on Aug. 16, and under him the club has gone 18-16.
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005, Sandberg will be taking on managerial duties for the first time in his career.
