The Philadelphia Union have a new Designated Player.
The club signed Argentine midfielder Cristian Maidana on Wednesday, signing the former Spartak Moscow and Atlante player to a contract that will see him occupy an International and Designated Player roster spot under MLS policy.
“I was able to see Cristian play several times and I came away extremely impressed with his technical skills, creativity and one vs. one ability,” said Team Manager John Hackworth in release by the club. “After having met him personally, I felt even more confident that he was the type of person and player who can benefit our club on and off the field. We are excited that Cristian is a member of the Union.”
Maidana, who is still only 26 despite his wealth of playing experience, was last with Argentinos Juniors in Argentina's top flight.
