Philadelphia Union 3-1 Chivas USA: Union wins in wet, wild game

One year and three trades later, Sébastien Le Toux is headed back to Philadelphia.

The Union re-acquired their all-time leading scorer Thursday, sending allocation money and midfielder/forward Josué Martinez to the New York Red Bulls.

"In our hearts Sebastien has always been a Union player and his contributions on the field and in the community while he was in Philadelphia were invaluable. We are thrilled to welcome him back," Union CEO and operating partner Nick Sakiewicz said.

Le Toux, 28, led the Union in scoring in both his seasons with the club, scoring 25 goals and adding 20 assists in the 2010 and 2011 campaigns, before being shipped to the Vancouver Whitecaps in a trade last offseason. The Caps traded Le Toux to the Red Bulls in the middle of the 2012 season.

The Red Bulls made it clear that Le Toux wanted to go back to PPL Park.

“Sébastien indicated to us at the end of the season that he wanted to return to Philadelphia and we respected his request," Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh said.

The Union signed Martinez from Deportivo Saprissa last offseason, but the 22-year-old Costa Rica international struggled to make a mark in Philadelphia, scoring one goal in 18 appearances.

“We are excited to bring Josué to the Red Bulls. Our staff considers him a young player with potential. In addition, the allocation money we received will provide us some financial flexibility,” Roxburgh said.
